It’s no coincidence that these patterned chairs are strikingly regal—they were being initially manufactured as thrones by the Yoruba individuals of Nigeria and other parts of West Africa. Each is beaded above just about every inch of its surface area, front, back, and sides—tiny seed beads are hand sewn on to cloth stretched about wooden frames.
The do the job has spiritual meaning and decorative influence, and demonstrates equally longstanding traditions and European influences. Pointless to say, each chair takes months to comprehensive and no two are just alike.
Of late, Yoruba beaded seating is coveted the globe about. We were being launched to our first instance in Paris strategy retailer Merci’s showcase condominium (demonstrated previously mentioned and down below). Considering that then, we’ve been accumulating sightings, and have nonetheless to encounter an instance that isn’t amazing. Appear see.
