One glance at this Forest Hills home, and you’ll see that it has a designer’s touch. The three-bedroom, three-bathroom home was originally built in 2017 for Dallas-based designer Chad Dorsey. The home has since changed hands, selling to new owners in 2021.

The home’s exterior is a striking black that offers high contrast to the greenery on the property. It sits on a 0.574-acre lot with plenty of mature trees surrounding it.

Dorsey said the home, which he dubbed the “Surf Shack,” was inspired by the way the property’s original driveway “felt like a pathway to a beach.” He kept that same feel, replacing the old driveway with a gravel driveway but maintaining much of the landscaping.

“I wanted to drive in every day and feel like I’m going down a beach path,” Dorsey said.

Inside the 3,185 square-foot home, the light-filled dining room is next to the foyer. A wet bar connects the dining room to the kitchen and great room. The kitchen has marble countertops and walnut cabinets with great views of the backyard. The great room, which is open to the kitchen, has a fireplace on one end.

Of the three original bedrooms, one is used as a den. A fireplace gives the room a cozy feel, and it has its own closet and a pocket door that leads to a hallway bathroom, the listing agents said.

The primary bedroom and the remaining bedroom get plenty of natural light. In the primary bathroom, you’ll find dual vanities, marble finishes, a soaking bathtub, a separate shower and a walk-in closet. The additional full bedroom also has an en suite bathroom.

Dorsey said his intention with the home’s design was to create a relaxed space without excess.

Outside, the home has room for entertaining and plenty of green space in the backyard. Listing agents noted that the property has two garages, one attached and one detached, with space for four cars.

The home at 8214 San Fernando Way is on the market for $2,400,000 and is listed by Jennifer Shindler and J.L. Forke of Briggs Freeman Sotheby’s International Realty.
