Living in a microorganism infested environment does not only make us prone to falling sick it can also have a long detrimental effect on our overall health.

Thankfully several DIY ideas can reduce expenses spent on cleaning products and equipment. You can make use of these DIYs to clean your house and you will achieve the best result.

Here are 5 easy DIY hacks that you can use for cleaning your home;

  1.     Cleaning Carpet stain
    Vodka can be used in place of rubbing alcohol for the removal of stains which could be blood stains, grease, ink, etc. “First blot the stain. Second, pour any type of clear alcohol (rubbing alcohol, vodka, white wine) on the stain. This is better than any over the counter product you can buy.” The procedure was suggested by Greg Shepard, founder of Dallas maid, a house cleaning service company.
  2.     Cleaning bathroom and toilet
    You don’t need to hire the services of a house cleaning service before cleaning your bathroom. To remove soap scum from bathtubs and stains on bathroom tiles, make your DIY toilet cleaner by first adding vinegar in a spray bottle then mix with a tablespoon of baking soda, add 2 tablespoons of liquid soap to the mixture.

You can also add citrus oil or eucalyptus oil as these give your bathroom and toilet a pleasant smell. Spray this mixture down your bathtub walls and allow it to sit for about 10 minutes, then wipe away with a soft wet sponge and rinse off the surface with warm water.

For your toilet cleaner, pour 150g (a cup) of baking soda into a bowl. add about 40 drops of lemon oil then apply a teaspoon of the mixture to the toilet bowl and add 10 tablespoons of white vinegar, scrub the bowl with a toilet brush and rinse with warm water.

  1.     Cleaning Furniture
    Start by vacuuming the furniture this makes your scrubbing effective, it prevents dirt from penetrating deep into the furniture. To make your cleaner, add 2 tablespoons of vinegar to 1 ½ cups of warm water then add 2 tablespoons of baking soda and 2 tablespoons of laundry detergent to the mixture. Dip a microfiber cloth into this solution and use it to lean the furniture. After cleaning let the furniture air dry.
  2.     Glass cleaner
    Glass attracts dust and gets smudged easily but that shouldn’t stop you from having a clean, sparkling mirror in your home without much effort or overspending.

For your glass cleaner,  pour 2 cups of water into a spray bottle, one tablespoon of liquid soap and half a cup of white vinegar. Spray the solution on the glass and wipe away gently with a microfiber cloth.

  1.     Cleaning Mattress
    Start by deodorizing a mattress using baking soda then vacuum the ones left behind, vacuuming helps remove dirt, dust and dead cells. Make an enzyme-based cleaner, this helps in removing stains such as urine or bloodstain.

For the enzyme-based cleaner, mix 2 cups (16 ounces) of 3% hydrogen peroxide with 4 tablespoons of baking soda and 2 or 3 drops of liquid dish soap. Pour the DIY cleaner into a spray bottle, and spray generously on the mattress. Add baking soda and vacuum to remove leftovers. Air-dry the bed and flip over during this process.
