Wish you could do more to help the environment? Luckily you can do just that, without ever having to step foot out of the house. Here’s how you can turn your abode into one even the environment would want to live in.
Install Solar Panels
They may not be cheap to get, but will not only save you hundreds to thousands of dollars on electricity in the long run, but will reduce your carbon footprint enormously. You’ll also get tax credit from the federal government and maybe even your state. Research as much as you can beforehand, however, and see what panel installation services are available in your state (e.g. which can be as easy as typing solar panels new jersey on a search engine).
Do Laundry the Environmentally Friendly Way
There are many ways you can cut down on both laundry waste and cost. You don’t need a dryer on a warm, sunny day, for example: just hang your clothes out to dry, then iron out the creases. For the times you do need a dryer, try replacing fabric softener sheets with wool dryer balls, which can be used several times and can cut a few minutes from your dry cycle. If you’re in the market for a new dryer, buy a high-efficiency brand, which uses less water, along with HE detergent, which cleans better and produces fewer suds. You can also start washing more clothes by hand, which may take more work, but will waste far less water and detergent.
Reuse, Reuse, Reuse
Replace paper napkins with cloth ones that you can wash and use multiple times over. Reuse plastic water bottles, or better yet, replace them when bottles designed for reuse, and place a filter on your sink if you’re worried about water quality from your tap. Furthermore, there’s no need to throw out printer errors: just reuse the back, or save the paper for scraps.
Try these steps and you’ll not only be taking care of your home, but the planet along with it.
