Over the years, we have shared a simple formula for decorating your entry–ground the space with a small rug, add a console table, style with a mirror, greenery, art, and baskets. It’s a look that is always beautiful. But what it your entry is too small for a console table or doesn’t have enough wall space for a mirror? Even in large homes, sometimes there is no formal entry. House plans often have you entering straight in to the living room or the staircase. Or maybe you have a little entry, but doorways for the front office and guest bedroom take up the wall space. We’ve had to design around all these issues too. Today we are sharing a few different ways we’ve created a warmer welcome no matter the size or layout of the entry.
Style with a Bench
Our Beach Front Project opens to the main stairway. Instead of blocking the entrance with a console table along the wall to the left, we thought the flow was better and the visual more pleasing to have the front door open to a low backless bench facing the front door and styled with pretty pillows. Paired with a plant and patterned runner, the space is full of texture and welcoming color.
Float a Small, Round Table
Our Family Ties Custom Build welcomes guests directly in to the expansive open-floor plan. Rather than have guests come straight in to the living room, we floated a round table with a rug in the center of the space between the front door and the living room furniture. This look worked because we had enough floor space to break it up without overcrowding or blocking walk-ways.
Use a Narrow Console Table in a Wide Entry Hallway
The entry of our Desert Oasis Project is an open hallway leading deeper into the home. A narrow console table with no rug adds beauty, a practical spot for keys, and still leaves space for house traffic to flow past. Here, with plenty of wall space to fill, an oversize mirror reflecting a unique bowl and vibrant greens beautifies the space and sets the tone for the rest of the design.
Fill the Corner with a Styled Blanket Ladder
Although the open walk-way office off to the side of the entrance in our Golden Hour Project welcomes guests, we wanted something special by the front door. With no wall space, and little available floor space, we simply added a small rug and placed a blanket ladder by the front door. Styled with pretty textiles, this is an easy way to add color, pattern, and warmth without taking a lot of space. It also doubles as a hat/coat rack.
